Covering a 43-acre site and spanning no less than nine London postcode areas, the Westfield London retail complex is set to become one of the city's biggest attractions, with up to 60,000 people a day estimated to visit.
Complementing over 260 retailers, 50 places to eat and a 14-screen cinema (due to open in 2009), one of Westfield's outstanding features is The Atrium, a 6,500m2 rectangular central area that will host a wide range of entertainment, including live performances and exhibitions. Finally with all the months of building the Centre opened its doors today for the first time to the public.
The Atrium event space provided the main focus of the day with the official opening ceremony consisting of Boris Johnson cutting the ribbons, the London Community Gospel choir and culminating in multi million album selling Leona Lewis taking to the stage to the excitement of the estimated 20,000 onlookers.
Delta sound were involved not only as the appointed Launch event sound suppliers by Jack Morton Worldwide but also previously had won the prestigious audio installation of the Atrium event space. Delta's installation team led by Lee Dennison and Daren Hurst have installed a state of the art audio system and this was eagerly used by Delta's Project Manager Mark Sawyer who ran the Launch ceremony. The schedule was extremely tight with all departments pushing up to the wire to ensure the smooth running of the opening ceremony. The launch ceremony starts a four day opening period with fashion shows, live bands and other surprise acts spanning the weekend.
