EM Acoustics press release:

The current series of The X-Factor utilises a complete on-stage monitor system from EM Acoustics. The configuration deployed by Delta Media's Fred Jackson (pictured) comprises 16 M-12 monitors, 14 of which are built into the set, along with 4 EMS-152 medium-Q 15" x 2" passive enclosures.

Jackson initially became a customer of EM Acoustics last year during work on two other high-profile British TV shows: The Friday Night Project and Britain's Got Talent. However, The X-Factor represents the first production on which he has deployed a complete EM monitor system.

"With Jackson Audio Ltd now becoming Delta Media and as such being part of Delta Sound, M-12s are now in the rental inventory of one of the UK's most respected audio rental companies. This is understandably a very proud moment for us", commented EM Acoustics' Mike Wheeler.

Delta Media is using a custom-modified version of the M12, the M-12J, that uses all neodymium drive units to save weight and features a custom logo machined into the woodwork. Originally designed with Woking-based Sound By Design, the M-12 is an increasingly popular monitor for both live and installed applications.

"The ever-evolving relationship with EM has been a delight from start to finish," said Jackson. "Their responsiveness to what was required for the original M-12J prompted me into seeking further development of products for job-specific solutions with them."

Yamaha press release:

Delta Media associate, Fred Jackson has been supplying all of the onstage monitoring equipment for the live X-Factor performance and results shows for all six series'.

Jackson has used Yamaha's PM5D-RH console for monitors on the first five series of X Factor, this year expanding the system to two PM5D-RHs and a DSP5D. He states that the reliability of Yamaha’s equipment makes it well suited for The X-Factor’s two-show per week schedule.

Discussing this year's series, Jackson said: "Each year the demand for channels on the programme has grown, so this time I'm running a PM5D-RH and DSP5D expansion unit to give me 96 channels for the contestants, with a further PM5D-RH for our guest artists."

The simplistic design of the Yamaha console has meant even high profile guest appearances are no problem for Jackson: "Most acts tend to bring along their own monitor engineer, so we can just point them to the PM5D-RH and they’re happy to get on with setting themselves up. "It’s such a well-known console that we can just leave any guest engineer to get on with it. Most are pretty happy to just be left alone!"

Once the second console is set up, it’s used with the first console and DSP5D in cascade mode for the contestant performances. Then it’s straightforward to load the settings for the guest performer and it is used separately for their song.
