In an escape from the norm, Delta Sound went back to its youth, flipped its baseball cap backwards and headed down to East London at the weekend for the “Vans Downtown Showdown”. Working for Innovison, Delta provided an indoor and outdoor course system.
The vans Downtown Showdown concept was created for skateboarders by skateboarders and has been running globally for the last six years, each time creating unique off-the-wall ideas to be skated. With Torino and Hamburg the previous settings for the European Vans Downtown Showdown, and the infamous Paramount Studious in Hollywood, Los Angeles being the birthplace of this unique event, expectations this year were higher than ever before as Vans and the competitors pushed hard to surpass the already extremely high standard of the contest. Ten of the best skate teams competed at the historic Old Spitalfields for their chance to take part in a contest renowned to test skill, flare and creativity. Far removed from the usual format of any other skateboarding competition the event took place on special customised ramps, which are all designed by the invited teams themselves. Featuring DJs, MCs and some moves defying the laws of quantum physics, Delta installed a L’Acoustics and Meyer Sound system indoors and used four hangs of L’Acoustics on SmarTmasts for the outdoor system. A combination of Yamaha, DiGiCo and Optocore provided the front-end and fibre linking to both sites and Shure and Sennheiser played their part as normal. A big crowd on the day showed their appreciation to the skaters and the event was a great success. |
